About The Cake Plate

Long time Austinite, Scott Calvert, attended The New England Culinary Institute before opening his own bakery in 1996.  Previously, he had held the position of Executive Pastry Chef with Motorola Inc. in Austin, Texas.

Originally named Countryside Baking Company, The Cake Plate was renamed in 1998.  Specializing in deserts, The Cake Plate is a fully personalized bakery, ranging from simple elegance to over the top extravagance.  Employing a staff of talented and creative team members, Scott also provides a full range of custom deserts for many Austin area restaurants and catering companies.

Baking is a natural extension of Scott’s Italian heritage.  He grew up surrounded by family, food and friends.  Supported by his wife, Gretchen, and daughter, Carlie, he has been able to achieve personal and business success. The Cake Plate has continued to evolve even to include destination weddings as far away as Acapulco and New York. While supporting themed parties from college football to special occasion events.

In his free time Scott enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, running and travel. He is well known in Austin and can often be found participating in local food events.
